Our story
We are a family-owned small business. We pride ourselves on providing quality, locally caught seafood to consumers and continuing with the commercial fishing lifestyle.
We have been commercial fishermen since the 1980s. However, in the mid-2000s, imported shrimp flooded American markets, driving the price for domestic shrimp down dramatically. At that time, we knew we had to do something different. In a time when many fishouses and fishermen went out of business, we needed a new game plan in order for Allen to continue the job he loved. We decided to try to sell our shrimp directly to the consumer. After a night of Allen shrimping, his wife Gina, set up in the front yard where we are currently located. She had a cooler of shrimp and a small sign. Before we knew it, she was sold out. That’s the day that Miss Gina’s Shrimp was born. The operation has expanded in size but remains almost as simplistic as it was when it started.
Our shrimp
The North Carolina Shrimp Fishery is made up of three species of shrimp-brown shrimp, pink shrimp, and white shrimp. Our boats focus on brown and white shrimp as pink shrimp are much less abundant.
Brown (summer) Shrimp
Typically caught in the summer, June through September.
In North Carolina, they are typically only caught in the sounds and rivers.
Have more bold, robust taste.
White (green tail) Shrimp
Typically caught more in the fall, but over the last few years we have been able to catch some through January and start again in April. These are the more abundant shrimp caught over the last few years.
